Directions to the lake house
FROM DALLAS (about 3 ½ hours):
Prettier Drive:
Go south on IH35 out of downtown. Take Highway 67 (exit from I35 a few miles past the Dallas Zoo) toward Cleburne/Glen Rose. Stay on Highway 67 through Cleburne and Glen Rose until you are approximately 12 miles past Glen Rose (a total of approximately 80-90 miles from Dallas), where you will go south (left) on Highway 220 to Hico (a distance of about 14 miles on Highway 220). 220 dead ends at Hico, go west (right) a few blocks thru town, then turn south (left) on Highway 281. Take 281 south for approximately 100 miles to Marble Falls.
Simpler Drive:
Take IH35 south from Dallas to Georgetown (approximately 30 miles north of Austin). Exit onto Highway 29 and go west (right) approximately 35 miles to Burnet. When you reach Burnet, take Highway 281 (a light in the middle of town) south for about 13 miles to Marble Falls.
When you get to Marble Falls (from the north):
From Highway 281, you will pass Wal-Mart and go another mile or so until you see a Whataburger on the right. Turn off Highway 281 to the right onto the street just after the Whataburger (Avenue J). [Avenue J is diagonal to Highway 281, so this is not a sharp turn]. You will reach a stop sign at FM 1431 just after you turn onto Avenue J. Cross FM 1431 and continue straight on Avenue J. You will go through several stop signs and then a park (Johnson Park). Drive through the park and stay left at the softball field. Avenue J becomes Pecan Valley Drive on the other side of the park. Continue down Pecan Valley Drive until it ends, where you will have to turn to the right onto Pecan Drive. The house is the brown, one-story brick house on your left (about 6-8 houses down) -- 1120 Pecan Drive.

FROM HOUSTON (3 ½ hours):

FROM AUSTIN (about 1 hour):
Once in Austin, you need to get on Highway 71 West, which leaves from the south of Austin. If you come in on 290, go south on IH35 until you get to Highway 71/Ben White and go west. There are several ways to get out of Austin: 1. The fastest way to get out of town on Highway 71 West in my opinion (though not the simplest, since the signs can be confusing) is to take Southwest Parkway. Just follow the signs/exit marker for “Southwest Parkway” as you near Lamar on Ben White/71. You turn right (west) on Southwest Parkway and go west out of town for approximately 10 miles (give or take 3 or 4) until you hit Highway 71, then go right (West) on 71 toward Bee Caves. This puts you a couple miles east of Bee Caves; or 2. You can also get to Highway 71 by taking FM 2244 west from Austin (Bee Caves Road) – which is an exit off Loop 1 south of Town Lake. FM2244 takes you into Bee Caves and 71, where you go right (west); or 3. You can take 71 all the way – just follow the signs for Highway 71 through Oak Hill (perhaps the simplest route, but definitely the slowest), then go west on 71 to Bee Caves. Whichever route you take, once you are on Highway 71 in Bee Caves, you go west another 30-40 miles (I think it’s about 35) until you reach Highway 281, then go north on 281 about 5 miles to Marble Falls.
When you get to Marble Falls (from the south):
Cross the bridge over the lake, then take the first left at Yett Road (there is no light) immediately past the bridge – there’s a Hampton Inn and a Chili’s at this corner. Follow this street as it winds down the hill (veer left at the "T") until you get to the bottom of the hill with the lake on your left. Go right (you are following the “Meadowlakes” signs at this point) up the hill. If you get to a lakeside park/RV area, you missed the right turn up the hill. At the second stop sign (Avenue J), go left. You will go through a park (Johnson Park). Drive through the park and stay left at the softball field (stop following the “Meadowlakes” signs at this point). Avenue J becomes Pecan Valley Drive once you pass the park. Continue down Pecan Valley Drive until it ends, where you will have to turn to the right onto Pecan Drive. The house is the brown, one-story brick house on your left (about 6-8 houses down) -- 1120 Pecan Drive.

FROM SAN ANTONIO (about 1 ½ hours):
Take Highway 281 north to Marble Falls. Follow the above directions to the house from the south.
